Environmental Education Program

It is a goal of the Juniata County Conservation District to facilitate an awareness of the interrelationships between human activities and the natural environment through education. In fulfilling this purpose, we believe that the education of our youth should be a top priority. We trust that a connection with nature, fostered through environmental education, will instill in our county’s children a respect for our environment and motivate action towards conservation and preservation when today’s youth grow into tomorrow’s leaders.

Much of our educational programming focuses on place-based environmental knowledge; meaning that the local environment within Pennsylvania, and Juniata County in particular, is the primary resource for learning. Through concentrating on the local environments, we are able to incorporate more hands-on learning opportunities, and students are able to better understand their immediate natural environments, promoting the ability to make wise choices and better the future of our own communities.

Juniata County Conservation District offers a wide variety of programs on diverse selection of environmental topics through original lesson plans and also programs adapted from educational resources such as Project WILD, Growing up WILD, WILD about Endangered Species, Project WET, Project WOW, Project Learning Tree, and other well-known curriculums. Please visit our Available Programs Links (see gray box on the right of this page) for more information on what we can offer your classroom or group. To request a specialized lesson plan or have questions or comments, just contact us!
